CTRL Z / CTRL Y

Teaching and Curating, 2025

On the occasion of the action day Tag des Vergessens. Und des Erinnerns (Day of Forgetting. And Remembering), the HGB Leipzig class Artistic Action and Research presents artistic interventions in the permanent exhibition of the German Museum of Books and Writing as part of »Forget it?!«. The interventions examine processes of remembering and forgetting from different perspectives and engage with key themes of the permanent exhibition, including de/industrialization, hegemonic representations of history, forms of censorship, and the loss and preservation of knowledge.

The title CTRL Z / CTRL Y refers to the keyboard shortcuts »Undo« and »Redo«, which allow previously performed actions to be reversed or repeated. In the ambiguous space between these two commands, a decision is made as to what can be recovered and what is permanently deleted. Within this conceptual space, the artistic works explore the ambivalences between forgetting and remembering.
