Elsewhere is Nowhere takes the humanitarian and geopolitical developments of 2016/17 in Europe, Africa, and Asia as a point of departure for examining displacement, migration, and the social attributions associated with them. At its core is the question of whether recurring motifs, experiences, and notions of displacement can be identified without flattening their different political, social, and cultural contexts.

The exhibition brings together artistic positions that approach the subject through formal abstraction, performance, installation, and image-based practices. It focuses on the transitions between individual experience and collective imagery, as well as on media representations and social perceptions of displacement. Its aim is to challenge stereotypical representations while bringing into view aspects that often remain invisible in public discourse.

The exhibition was shown at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts in Taichung in 2016/17 and at Kunsthalle Exnergasse in Vienna in 2017.
